AGM & ANNUAL DINNER

2010

The 2010 AGM and Dinner is to be held late August, early September and details when they become available will be posted on the website, and members notified.

2009

The 2009 Annual General Meeting of the Lord’s Taverners Australia (ACT Branch) was held at The Boat House by the Lake on 3rd September 2009. The meeting opened at 7.00pm with Mr Rick Forster, presiding. He welcomed members and guests and then handed over to the Chairman, Mr David Nicholls. Apologies were first tabled. The minutes of the 2008 Annual General Meeting, held on 24 July 2008 were confirmed and there were no matters arising from those minutes.

David Nicholls in tabling the Annual Report summarised the fund-raising undertaken throughout the year and the opportunities this had provided in distribution of funds. The Chairman made special mention of the wonderful job Andrew Ostroumoff did in fundraising at the Golf Day, which had changed its form to be a corporate golf day. In recognition of the change and how some members had expressed regret at the changing focus, the Committee had planned a Members’ Golf Day in November 2009.

Due to recent comment on the direction Taverners was heading, Mr Nicholls explained that three years ago, members voted at the AGM to change the Constitution to bring the objectives of the Association in line with the UK organisation and the other Australian Branches whereby funds were distributed to disadvantaged young people participating in other sports as well as cricket. He reassured members that the committee administers the distribution of funds in accordance with these objectives. He reported on attending the Taverners national meeting in Alice Springs and how a stronger alliance was being forged with Cricket Australia.

In closing he advised that Geoff McGuinness and Denis Sargent were both retiring from the Committee and thanked them for their contributions.

Geoff McGuinness, Honorary Treasurer, tabled the Financial Statement for the 12 months ended 30 June 2009 which was approved unanimously, and confirmed he was not standing for re-election. He commented on how hard working committee members were in both fund raising and in seeking suitable recipients for funding. Mr McGuinness then declared all positions vacant, and as no other nominations had been received, the following were declared elected as the 2009 – 2010 Committee:

Rick Forster President
David Nicholls Chairman
Jenny Harper Hon. Secretary and Public Officer
David McKean Hon. Treasurer
Members: Mark de Jager, Gary Goodman, Rob Laurie, Nigel French, Andrew Ostroumoff and Mark Hainge (UK High Commission representative).

Mr Dennis O’Connor was thanked for his work as Honorary Auditor and re-appointed for another year. The President in closing then thanked all on the Committee for their work.

The meeting closed at 7.15pm and the Chairman invited Mr Peter O’Callaghan who was Vice Captain of the recent Indigenous Tour to the UK to talk to the meeting about his experience of being part of the Tour.

On completion of Peter's presentation, the members sat down to an excellent dinner and a most entertaining address by Sir Richard Hadlee - the guest speaker.

The 2009 Junior Taverners (Aaron Ayres and Rebecca Beath) received their awards during Dinner: their financial awards were donated by Muriel Wilkinson; cricket kits by Kookaburra and presented by the guest speaker, Sir Richard Hadlee.
